Geronimo Stilton finds himself in a most unusual situation in this volume. Someone is impersonating him and ruining his reputation as a kind, thoughtful and prudent mouse. Geronimo is just carrying on with life as usual when stories begin circulating about his apparent rude and often silly antics around town.

When his own family start to question his uncharacteristic behaviour and don’t believe him when he Geronimo feels it’s time to find out what is going on. His investigations lead him to a vaudeville act by non other that “Geronimo Stilton” where he joins the audience of a show performed by a mouse that looks and speaks exactly like him.

There is of course a larger story at work here and you are probably not surprised to discover it involves Geronimo’s arch-antagonist Sally Rattmousen.

Paws Off Cheddarface is quite an clever story and both touching and funny at times. In this day of identity theft it is a plausible scenario (if you momentarily forget we are talking about mice here). The thought of Geronimo wandering the streets at night and rejected by his own family (who mistakenly believe he is the impostor) was quite heart wrenching. Readers will be wondering how the story will resolve itself and rest assured, it does in satisfying way.

Watching Geronimo disguise Trap and give him back a little of his own medicine was quite enjoyable!  Well done Geronimo Stilton!
