Summary:
Halloween and Egypt and mummies . . . oh, my! I admit it, I am a 'fraidy mouse. Halloween scares me out of my fur! But this Halloween, I was heading off on an adventure in one of my very favorite places: Egypt. I couldn't wait to see the sights and soak up some sun far away from New Mouse City. What I didn't realize was that Halloween is popular in Egypt, too -- with the mummies, that is! Oh, what's a 'fraidy mouse to do?

Review: (Warning: Spoilers May follow)
My Rating: A-
I knew when I picked up this book to flip through that I would love it. Have I told you I am a visual person? Well I loved the illustrations in this book. Even the cover with its dark backgrounds and the green and orange highlights leaped out at me. The black outlines in this book seemed even more defined than usual and, coming from a comic-loving background, I revelled in that. The shading or color rendering was also extremely well done. Some of the colors were quite eye-poppingly beautiful (see the scarabs on page 55).  Then there were the internal illustrations, the maps, the myriad fact files on ancient Egypt and the party activity planner in the back. Great stuff!

In The Mummy With No Name Geronimo gets a call from a friend (this mouse has some great friends!) Professor Sandsnout who is the director of the Egyptian Mouseum in New Mouse City. Apparently the mouseum is being haunted by a mummy who roams the halls intoning dire warnings and the professor has called Geronimo for help. With Benjamin and Bugsy’s brave assistance and Geronimo’s knack of being at the right place at the right time (or is that the wrong place at the wrong time) the team explores the Mouseum, deciphers an ancient papyrus, and flies halfway across the world to solve the mystery of the mummy.

The story flows really well and while the reader isn’t given the opportunity to solve the minor puzzles in the book I still found the major mystery of the mummy an intriguing one. The fact files were quite informative and the illustrations were wonderfully colourful and dynamic Needless to say there were some wonderful uses of fonts and colors in the text. Highly enjoyable!

Ancient_Egypt_DKAncient Egypt (DK Eyewitness Books): From the splendor of the pharaoh's court to the everyday life of ordinary people, the great civilization of the Nile valley is revealed in page after page of dramatic photos of the objects they left behind: human and animal mummies, reed brushes, children's pull-toys, and more. Awesome photos and comes with a clip-art CD so kids can make their own Egyptian-themed creations. (Ages 9+ for text but all ages for photographs)

Fiction That Deals With similar subjects:
Egyptian_DiaryEgyptian Diary: The Journal of Nakht: The year is 1465 BC, and nine-year-old Nakht and his family are moving to the bustling city of Memphis, where his father has a new job. Join Nakht as he learns about his new world: taking lessons to be a scribe like his father, touring the nearby City of the Dead, visiting the workshops of skilled craftsmen, and going on a hippo hunt. Most spectacular of all, watch Nakht and his sister, Tamyt, pay a visit to the royal palace in Thebes, where, as reward for helping to catch a tomb robber, they get to meet the king! From the author of Castle Diary and Pirate Diary this is very popular for both its writing and illustrations. (Ages 9-12)

MaraMara, Daughter of the Nile: The adventures of an ingenious Egyptian slave girl who undertakes a dangerous assignment as a spy in the royal palace of Thebes, in the days when Queen Hatshepsut ruled.
