Summary:
Holey cheese, what an adventure! I was off to the Ratlapagos Islands with my family in search of a long-lost buried treasure. But oh, how I hate traveling! Being on a ship in the middle of the sea wasn't my idea of a fabumouse time. And I was beginning to suspect that we weren't the only ones searching for the treasure. . . .

My Rating: B
Geronimo’s Aunt Sweetfur brings our intrepid trio together for a new adventure. As it turns out Sweetfur’s husband disappeared some years ago while on a voyage to find treasure. Auntie wants to find the location of where her husband went missing while Trap is intent on discovering the treasure.
Geronimo’s cute nephew, Benjamin, searches in the internet for more information about the wreck that was carrying the treasure and also discovers a way for them all to charter a boat to its last known location. After a death-defying flight in Thea’s plane Geronimo has a terrible sea voyage (no surprises here
) replete with seasickness and mouth-numbing ultra-super-crazy-hot chilli bean stew prepared by his cousin Trap.
After a fruitless search, with moments that reminded me of Tintin’s search for Red Rakham’s treasure, they finally find the wreck of the boat with their echo-sounder. Once they do, the adventure really begins.
And I suppose that is where my main fault with this book lies, the real adventure of diving under the water does not actually begin until half way through the book, literally page 54 of 110 pages. I expect that readers who pick up a book about the underwater search for sunken treasure will probably be a little restless to get to the action depicted in the title and on the cover, I know I was.
Once Geronimo, Trap and Thea start diving to explore the wreck there are many opportunities for adventure that could have easily been expanded. Perhaps dispensing with numerous travel and culinary details in the first half might have left room for later, more original, adventures.
Despite this fairly mild criticism, I enjoyed the book just to be a part of Geronimo’s world, though I would not regard it as one of my favourites.
